Inspection

Possum Control & Removal questions
Can you just take the possum away?
No — and be cautious of anyone who says they will. Possums are protected wildlife in Victoria and there are strict rules about how they are handled and where they may be released. The permanent fix is proofing the building so it cannot get back in.
How do I know if it is a possum or a rat?
Possums are heavy and loud — thumping, running and screeching, mostly after dusk and again before dawn. Rats are lighter and faster, with scratching and scurrying sounds and droppings around the roof void. We confirm it during the inspection.
Will it come back?
Not if the proofing is done properly. That is the part that matters — remove the animal without sealing the entry points and it, or the next possum, is back within days.
What about the mess in the roof?
We will advise on soiled insulation and whether it should be removed and replaced, and on sanitising the affected area. Odour left untreated also attracts the next animal to the same spot.
